Quezon survives San Juan

Louell Jay Gonzales hit two freethrows with 4.2 seconds left as South Division leading Quezon topped San Juan Knights 84-83.

The win improved Quezon's win-loss record to 18-4, two and a half games clear of the South Division.

The loss snapped the Knights' 12-game winning streak, dropping them from a tie forst first to third in the North Division with a 21-win 2-loss card.

Abra weaves past Ilagan Isabela

Dave Ildefonso, the league's leading scorer, scored 20 points and added 8 rebounds to lead Abra to another victory, this time over Ilagan Isabela Cowboys 76-59.

Abra, the league's best team, with a 22-win 1-loss record, extended their winning run to 20 games.

Ilagan Isabela, who has lost 3 of their last 4 games, was led by Donald Gumaru, who finished with 11 points.

Cebu rips Bulacan, extends win streak

Paul Desiderio finished with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 steals, leading Cebu to an 87-71 win over Bulacan Kuyas.

It was the 4th straight win for Cebu (9-15), continuing their pursuit of a play-in spot as they are now just a game behind  Imus and Sarangani, who are currently tied for 10th spot.

John Rey Sumido led Bulacan with 17 points.

Larry Muyang missed only one of his 11 field goal attempts to finish with 20 points, and added 5 rebounds and Jhaymo Eguilos contributed 12 points, 14 rebounds and 5 assists as the Pampanga Giant Lanterns beat QC Galeries Taipan 90-73.

Pampanga is now tied with idle Caloocan Batang Kankaloo at 4th place with similar 16win-7loss record.

Jayson Puray topscored for Quezon city with 16 points.

GenSan dismantles Bacolod

Mark Cruz waxed hot from the outside, going 6 of 12 from beyond the arc to finish with a game-high 23 points, while adding 6 assists and Felix Apreku was a monster inside, scoring 10 points and grabbing 24  boards as GenSan Warriors scored a 104-71 win over Bacolod Tubo Slashers.

The win snapped back-to-back losses suffered by the Warriors, improving its record to 14-9, solidifying their playoff position in the tight South Division.

Mart Barrera finished with 21 points and Mark Ray Dubouzet 20 for the Tubo Slashers, who has now dropped 20of its 23 games this season.

Dawn Ochea added 16 points and 8 boards, Juneric Baloria 14 points and 4 steals and Mark Neil Cruz 10 points and 10 assists as Batangas wins their third straight game to improve to its record to 15 wins and 8 losses.

Marikina, meanwhile, suffered its 5th straight loss, 19th overall in 23 games.

The Pasay City Voyagers needed two overtimes to get past Rizal Xentro Mall Golden Coolers 96-89, to extend their winning streak to six games.

Jasper Salenga and Felipe Chavez each had 17 points and four others scored in double figures for the Voyagers, who improved their win-loss record to 16-8.

The Xentro Mall Golden Coolers, who dropped their 8 game of the season (14 wins), was led by Alwyn Alday, who had 17 points.

Basilan beats Davao Occidental

Basilan started the game on fire, outscoring Davao Occidental 30-14 in the first quarter, fueling their 82-63 victory.

Gab Dagangon (19 points, 8 rebounds), Eman Calo (13 points) and Alex Cabagnot (10 points, 10 rebounds, 9assists) spearheaded the Viva Portmasters' attck to win their 11th game of the season, good for 8th in the South Division.

Davao fell to 8-14 (win-loss), dampening their bid for a play-in spot as they are now one game behind idle team Imus and Sarangani, which both have 9-13 records.

Wowie Escosio scored 13 points and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Davao.

The MPBL has meted a lifetime ban on Gensan Warriors player Michole Sorela

Upon review of the footage of the incident from last night's game (August 11) between the Mindoro Tamaraws and the GenSan Warriors, the MPBL has meted a lifetime ban on GenSan player Michole Sorela.

A ₱200,000 fine has also been slapped on Sorela for the punch that left Mindoro's Jonas Tibayan with a broken jaw and concussion.

"We condemn the incident and the MPBL won't tolerate such actions", said MPBL commissioner Kenneth duremdes in handing out stiff sanctions. "It compromises the player's safety and taint the league's image".

Robby Celiz scored 19 points, shooting a perfect 11-of-11 from the freethrow line and added 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, leading Nueva Ecija Vanguards to an 81-64 win over Biñan Tatak Gel.

Jaycee Marcelino added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and John Wilson contributed 14 points and 7 boards as the Vanguards, who won the 20th of their 21 games this season, tied idle teams Abra and San Juan for the best record in the league.

Biñan was led by Pamboy Raymundo, who finished with 15 points.

John Paul Cauilan had a 27-point 11-rebound double-double, leading Zamboanga Sikat to a nail-biting 98-93 overtime win over the Pangasinan Heatwaves.

Reggz Albert Gabat added 22 and 8 and Abdul Sawat 21 and 11 as Zamboanga snaps a 2-game skid to improve its win-loss record to 16-7, solidifying their hold of the 2nd spot in the South Division.

Pangasinan.meanwhile, fell to 15-7, their 5-game winning streak snapped.

Laurenz Victoria led Pangasinan with 16 points.
